The minister stressed the importance of strengthening co-ordination and joint action among GCC countries to keep pace with rapid developments in postal and telecommunications services, particularly digital transformation, artificial intelligence and emerging technologies. He highlighted the need to develop infrastructure and services, enhance the sector’s readiness and competitiveness, and strengthen the GCC’s presence in regional and international forums.
He said the meeting provided an opportunity to deepen GCC co-operation and integration, discuss priority issues and adopt practical initiatives to ensure the resilience of both sectors amid global technological changes.
Dr Shaikh Abdulla also thanked GCC countries for supporting Bahrain’s nomination of Adel Darwish for the post of deputy secretary general of the International Telecommunication Union (ITU), expressing hope for continued support to strengthen Gulf representation in leadership positions at specialised international organisations.
The meeting discussed issues of mutual interest, including telecommunications regulation, roaming, digital services, joint work plans and space co-operation. Participants also reviewed developments in joint GCC initiatives and programmes, as well as the outcomes of specialised committees and working groups.
Bahrain’s hosting of the meeting reflects its commitment to advancing joint GCC action and strengthening integration in postal and telecommunications services to keep pace with technological developments and support the shared aspirations of member states and their peoples.
