Around 80 workers at a labour camp in Saar benefited from a food drive held recently by non-profit charity One Heart Bahrain.
The event marked World Food Day celebrated annually on October 16. This year’s theme, ‘Innovate today. Nourish tomorrow’, highlights the importance of combining innovative solutions with traditional knowledge and inclusive approaches to ensure everyone has access to sufficient, diverse, safe and nutritious food, while safeguarding the planet for future generations.
“One small act of kindness can make a world of difference,” the unregistered group’s operations director and project manager Amal Ishaq told the GDN.
“Food is a blessing to be shared, especially with those in need. So many go without meals each day, which serves as an important reminder never to waste food,” she added.
The philanthropist, who has been actively supporting community events and causes since 2017, said that over the past year, the group’s campaigns had reached a wider section of society and helped more people.
“We have had more organisations support our initiatives and have seen a rise in the number of our volunteers as well,” added the Bahraini IT professional.
Presently, One Heart Bahrain has more than 200 volunteers, many of whom have been working with the platform since its inception in 2019.
Founded by Dutch expatriate Birthe van der Heijden with the vision of ‘helping people recognise that we are One World, One People and One Bahrain Community’, the group has since widened its reach with its Global Good platform, OHM, helping other like minded people create a positive impact.
“We have plans to stage a winter bazaar for needy families and a winter clothing distribution drive for workers in the coming months, with more details to be announced soon,” Ms Ishaq added.
