His Majesty King Hamad will receive France’s President Emmanuel Macron upon his arrival in Bahrain today on an official visit, the Royal Court has announced.
During the visit, the French President will hold talks with His Majesty, focusing on the strong bilateral relations as well as the latest regional and international developments.
The Royal Court welcomed President Macron and his accompanying delegation, wishing him a pleasant stay in Bahrain.
President Macron, who is on a tour of the Gulf, met UAE President Shaikh Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan in Abu Dhabi yesterday.
The French President is seeking to deepen energy and defence ties with Gulf states during the three-day visit that started yesterday with Kuwait, where he met the Amir, Shaikh Mishal Al Ahmad Al Jaber Al Sabah, before travelling to the UAE.
Bahrain, the UAE, Kuwait and Qatar have all had energy sites attacked during the US-Iran war, which has also curtailed oil exports through the Strait of Hormuz. With Yemen’s Houthi rebels now pushing for control of a second strait, the Bab Al Mandeb, there are fears that the global energy crunch could worsen.
“In light of the crisis gripping the Middle East, the President will continue his efforts with regional leaders to promote a return to stability and freedom of navigation in the Strait of Hormuz,” an Elysee Palace source said in Paris. The visit will end in Qatar tomorrow.
