India’s Hitesh Yalamanchili, Locaditya Vardhan and Sparsh Parmar made winning starts at the 1st Shine Bahrain Super Series ITF Junior Championship which got underway yesterday at Bahrain Tennis Federation (BTF) courts in Isa Town.
Eighty players representing 30 countries are competing in the tournament which is being held under the supervision of the International Tennis Federation (ITF) and organised by Bahrain Tennis Federation. It will run until November 3.
Eight matches took place on the opening day of the event.
Yalamanchili had to sweat it out before beating Egyptian Omar El Shehawy 5-7, 6-4, 6-4.
Parmar routed Archie Graham of Britain in straight sets 6-0, 6-0, while Vardhan emerged victorious after compatriot Siddharth Jadli retired after trailing 6-3, 4-1.

In other matches, Oliver Richards of Britain breezed past Indian Deepak Vayara 6-1, 6-2, while Zubin Omar registered a lopsided 6-0, 6-0 win against Indian competitor Anshuman Sonawane.
In the last match of the day, Frenchman Alexandre Ver Hulst outplayed Sai Bhairaav of India 6-0, 6-1.
The first round of the event concludes today with four matches on the cards, all of which will begin at 2.30pm.
In the first match, Briton Billy Hayball will play against Alexandre Ver Hulst of France. Vardhan will meet Graham, and Richards will face Ignacio Montes in the final game.
The Kingdom will be represented in the event by eight players, including five males and three females, who will begin their journey tomorrow.
The first day of the championship was attended by officials, including BTF deputy president Shaikh Abdulaziz bin Mubarak Al Khalifa, who is also the head of the High Organising Committee of the event.
Championship manager Fuad Al Rowaie hailed the staging of the tournament in Bahrain, saying that maximum efforts are being done to make the event a huge success.
