Muscat: The Public Prosecution has warned against using drones or any other flying object without authorisation.
Violators caught in breach of the law will be jailed for one year and fined OMR10,000, reported Oman Observer.
On November 17 last year, flight operations at Muscat International Airport were temporarily suspended due to the confirmed visibility of a drone over the airport airspace.
Several inbound flights were diverted to other locations on December 24 in the region while outbound flights were delayed due to the closure of the runway during the peak hours between 11.09 pm and 12.45 am.
Under the Omani law, only companies are allowed to operate unmanned aerial vehicles, also known as drones.
The Public Authority for Civil Aviation (PACA) said that a permit is required for all drone flights in Oman, adding that only companies would be authorised for commercial purposes.
