A DRUNK expatriate allegedly attacked pedestrians before assaulting policemen, a court heard.
The 31-year-old British man appeared at the High Criminal Court yesterday where he denied assaulting policemen, being drunk and disorderly in public, damaging private property and possessing hashish and prescription pills.
The construction company manager is said to have caused chaos in a crowded street near a five-star hotel by attacking pedestrians and damaging vehicles, according to court documents.
He was arrested after he punched and kicked officers who tried to calm him down in Adliya in March.
A policeman described how the defendant attacked him and his colleague.
“We received information about a man who was attacking motorists and damaging vehicles in Adliya on March 29 at 10am,” the 37-year-old policeman told prosecutors.
“We went to the area before I spotted him damaging a vehicle belonging to a civilian.
“He was running into oncoming traffic and attacking pedestrians near a hotel.
“We tried to calm him down because he was in an abnormal condition. He punched me in my nose and it was bleeding a lot.
“He kicked my colleague before we wrestled him to the ground. Then we arrested him.”
The defendant told a leading judge that he arrived in Bahrain for tourism before getting drunk and waking up in a police station.
“I work as a manager of a construction company in Saudi Arabia,” he said in his statement to prosecutors.
“I came to Bahrain for tourism before I got drunk. I then woke up in a police station and I apologise if I did anything wrong. I really can’t remember anything after I became intoxicated.”
The trial has been adjourned until May 20 for a ruling.
