A NEWLY-RELEASED pictorial book retraces the laborious history of the radio in Bahrain over the past eight decades.
Titled When Iron Spoke...This is Bahrain – The History of Radio in Bahrain, retells the odyssey of the radio in Bahrain – since the first radio broadcasting service was launched on November 4, 1940 until 2021.
Authored by media official Mohanned Al Nuaimi, the book represents a rich and well-illustrated reference for the history of radio in Bahrain.
The writer, who has so far published five previous books, said that his new work seeks to document the history of radio in Bahrain, which played a pioneering role in the region.
Established on November 4, 1940, the embryonic radio came to halt in at the end of the Second World War in 1945.
A committee chaired by late Shaikh Mubarak bin Hamad Al Khalifa was set up then to develop the media in Bahrain.
A regular broadcasting service was established in Bahrain and inaugurated on July 21, 1955 with 2 kW on 610 kHz.
The radio service entered a new phase when Bahrain became a full-fledged independent and sovereign country and achieved further strides in the era of His Majesty King Hamad.
