Muharraq relinquished a five-point lead going into the fourth quarter as they fell 76-74 to reigning Zain Bahrain Basketball League champions Al Ahli in a clash of the titans at the Zain Arena in Um Al Hassam last night.
Al Ahli’s victory in a ninth-week match stretched their winning run in the season to eight games.
Ahli, who let a six-point lead at the interval slip to a five-point deficit at the end of the third quarter, held their nerve in a keenly contested final session to scrape past a battling Muharraq.
Anthony McClain paced the winners with 23 points, 14 rebounds and two assists while Hesham Sarhan contributed 17 points and Maitham Jameel chipped in with 16. Muharraq’s Husain Shaker tallied 25.
Ahli lead the standings with 16 points from eight games, followed by Al Najma with 15 from nine and Manama with 14 from seven.
The league now takes a breather and will resume with 10th-week games on December 7.
