A DOMESTIC worker, who was reportedly the victim of sexual advances from her employer, was rescued by her embassy.
The woman, identified only as Maricel (not her real name) by the Philippines Embassy, was rescued on Christmas Day.
According to a statement yesterday, the overseas Filipino worker reported the incident to police who notified the mission.
The embassy said on its Instagram account that Maricel was safe in its shelter in Mahooz.
“She had to physically fend off her employer’s sexual advances at their residence,” the embassy said.
“The embassy received a call from the East Riffa Police Station and she was taken into protective custody (by the police).
“Embassy personnel Esmail Dimapunong and Jaafar Mamaclay immediately went to the police station and brought her to the embassy shelter.
“Having been through a physical and psychological ordeal, Maricel was reassured by welfare officer Redina Manlapaz of the embassy’s care and attention while at the shelter.”
