MORE than 25 babies were born in Bahrain on New Year’s Day.
The GDN learned that 18 of them were born at Bahrain’s largest public hospital, Salmaniya Medical Complex (SMC) – eight girls and 10 boys.
The SMC also recorded the first three births of the year – two girls and a boy – at 5.14am, 5.20am, and 5.30am.
However, there were no further details available on the births at the SMC.
Meanwhile, the first birth reported at a private hospital on Saturday was that of Nasser born to Hussain Mirza, aged 33, and Fatima Adil, 31, at the Royal Bahrain Hospital (RBH), at 7.26am.
“Nasser surprised us; he was supposed to arrive around January 14 but by arriving early he made our New Year special,” the Bahraini professor at Bahrain Polytechnic told the GDN yesterday.

“His siblings – my six-year-old daughter Shahad and three-year-old son Yusuf – can’t wait to see Nasser.”
In accordance with Covid-19 protocols, children are not permitted in hospitals for visits.
Iris was the second baby born at the RBH at 12.15pm.
She is the first child of Indian Jason Swami, 40, and Bulgarian Hristina Katsarova, 30.
“Iris has brought so much joy into our lives, chiming the bells of happiness,” said Bahrain-born and raised musician Mr Swami.
The couple owns and operates 88KEYS Music Academy in Budaiya.
Mariam’s was the only birth recorded at the American Mission Hospital (AMH).

The Bahraini baby girl, named after the mother’s great-grandmother and born at 8.56am, is the first child of Raed Ahmed, 31, and Fatima Yousef, 33.
The Education Ministry employees from Diyar Al Muhharq were ecstatic with their “precious New Year gift”.
“We’re both feeling great – she’s a healthy and chubby baby (2.6kg), and she’s such a precious gift that I can’t take my gaze away from her,” said Mr Ahmed.
Two baby boys were born at the Royal Hospital for Women and Children (RHWC) on the first day of the year.
Bahraini Abdulaziz Albinali was born at 10.43pm to parents Hesa Abdulaziz Albinali, 29, and Ahmed Jamal Albinali, 32.
The mother, a Public Health employee, and father, a government employee from Galali, were delighted to welcome their second child.
“By God’s grace, we are good, and I am happy to have one more boy,” the mother said, adding that giving birth on New Year’s Day was “something amazing”.
Ahmed, a Moroccan boy, was born at 1.08pm to 36-year-old Sara Radouani at the RHWC.
Bahrain Specialist Hospital (BSH) recorded three births – two girls and one boy.
Bahraini boy Abdulrahman weighing 3.2kg was born at 9.45am to parents Yusuf Matar, 40, a National Bureau of Revenue employee, and Shaima Abdulla Al Dossery, 33, an Education Ministry employee.

The couple from Saar has two older boys – Isa, four years, and 36-month-old Faizal.
Police couple Hana Humood Al Abudlla and Captain Abdulhakim Al Dossery were blessed with a baby girl weighing 3kg at 10.15pm. The father named her Wed, meaning love and cordiality.
“I am today a proud father of three girls and I named my new baby Wed as she came at a time when the world needs much of love and warmth,” said the 28-year-old Bahraini from Isa Town.
“My wife and I are in the police force and my dream is that at least one of my girls join the force.”
The couples’ older daughters are four-year-old Sara and two-year-old Huda.
The third baby at the BSH was also a girl born at 8.32pm to Bahraini Zhara Mohammed Abdulla.
