THE other day I arrived in Bahrain from Sharjah with my family at around 7pm. I tried various taxi service providers but unfortunately none was available.
A few drivers informed me that only local taxis are allowed to pick up passengers from the airport.
As we started walking towards the taxi rank, suddenly four or five taxi drivers approached us with a ride to Juffair for BD10 plus anything additional for the New Year.
I told them it was only 11km. Initially, these drivers thought we were tourists and didn’t know the rules in Bahrain.
I asked them to charge me as per the meter, but all of them hesitated and said there was no meter or receipt.
I would urge the authorities to conduct surprise checks at the airport so that they can punish rogue taxi drivers, and residents or tourists don’t get cheated.
I would also suggest the airport authorities to encourage taxi service providers to pick up passengers from the airport in order to have smooth availability of taxis in an affordable manner.
Please look into this matter seriously and do the needful.
