BAHRAIN posted record-breaking weather conditions last year with last month being the fifth warmest December since records began in 1902.
The mean temperature was 21.3C, which is 1.6C above the long-term normal for the month, while the highest mean monthly temperature for December was recorded at 22.5C in 2001.
According to the Transportation and Telecommunications Ministry’s Meteorological Directorate, the mean maximum temperature for the month was 23.9C – which is 1C above the long-term normal – while the highest mean monthly maximum was 26.3C in 2001.
“The highest temperature recorded was 27.9C on December 2 at Bahrain International Airport (BIA) while 28.8C was registered on December 21 at the Bahrain International Circuit (BIC),” said the directorate in its monthly report.
“The mean minimum temperature of the month was 18.7C – which is 1.9C above the long-term normal – and goes on record as the fourth highest mean minimum temperature for the month since 1946.
“The highest mean monthly minimum temperature for December was 19.6C recorded in 2001.”
Meanwhile, the lowest temperature for December – 18.7C – was 1.9C above the long-term normal and goes on record as the fourth highest mean minimum temperature for the month since 1946.
The lowest temperature recorded was 15.5C on December 28 at BIA but 13.1C was registered on December 5 at the BIC.
“The mean relative humidity for December was 66 per cent whereas the mean maximum relative humidity was 80pc and the mean minimum relative humidity was 51pc.
“The maximum relative humidity was 93pc which was recorded on December 1 while the mean relative humidity was 27pc recorded on December 20.
“Thunderstorms occurred on December 31 as showers were reported at BIA, accumulating 8.5mm of precipitation with visibility dropping to 3,000 metres.
“This unsettled weather occurred due to a series of upper troughs which passed towards the Arabian Peninsula.”
The total monthly precipitation recorded for last month was 15.2mm at Durrat Al Bahrain, 9.2mm at the King Fahad Causeway, 7.2mm at the BIC, 7.2mm at Sitra Island and 6.2mm at Bahrain University.
The GDN previously reported that November 2021 was the sunniest November since sunshine records began in 1968 recording a total of 290.3 hours of sunshine while October went on record as the seventh warmest October since 1902.
Meanwhile, September went on record as the second sunniest of all Septembers with a total of 339 hours of sunshine recorded and August breaking all records as the hottest August ever experienced in Bahrain since 1902.
July also went on record as the second hottest July in more than a century with the average temperature hitting 36.5C, June was slightly warmer than normal with above average wind speed while April went on record as the warmest ever in Bahrain since 1902.
Finally, March was the second sunniest March in Bahrain since records commenced in 1968, with Bahrain registering 303.2 hours of sunshine while January was the sunniest since records began registering a total of 286.2 hours of sunshine.
