A MAN allegedly torched two vehicles belonging to his stepmother following a row with his father, a court heard.
The 29-year-old Bahraini appeared at the High Criminal Court yesterday where he denied arson and damaging private property.
He is said to have sent his father a message on his mobile phone, a day before the incident, telling him: “You will not sleep and you will see fireworks.”
The father described how he saw his son torching his wife’s vehicle outside their home in Muharraq on November 19 last year.
“I woke up as I heard a commotion outside my house,” said the 49-year-old Bahraini policeman in his statement to prosecutors.
“I then saw my son torching my wife’s vehicle, and the fire then spread to a second car.
“A day before the incident he had sent me a threatening message on my mobile phone.”
The father said he had refused to intervene in issues related to his son’s former wife.
“She had filed a case against my son. He told me to tell her to drop the charges, but I refused.
“In the past, he has assaulted me and his former wife.”
The trial has been adjourned until Tuesday for review.
