Qatari citizens and residents have voiced widespread opposition on social media to hosting Power Slap 27 in November, raising medical and cultural objections to the slap-fighting event.
The competition involves two participants taking turns delivering open-handed slaps to the face without defensive blocks until one contestant concedes or is knocked out.
Medical experts have long condemned the format, with neuroscientists warning that unblocked blows to the head pose severe risks of traumatic brain injury.
Prominent combat sports figures have also spoken out against the league, including boxing champion Ryan Garcia, who previously stated that the format "needs to be stopped".
Local critics argued that the spectacle could encourage unsafe behaviour among children, while describing face-slapping as degrading and contrary to regional values.
Multiple social media users called on authorities to cancel the event or replace it with a traditional sporting competition.
