A COMPREHENSIVE roadmap to boost all sectors, enhance democracy and achieve citizens’ aspirations for more growth and prosperity is being drawn up collectively by legislators, government officials and community leaders.
This comes as representatives from Parliament, the Shura Council, the Constitutional Court, the Public Prosecution, Parliament and Shura Council Affairs Ministry, the Supreme Council for Women and the National Audit Office met for a major parliamentary forum yesterday.
Representatives from the National Institution for Human Rights, King Hamad Global Centre for Peaceful Coexistence, the Bahrain Chamber and the Bahrain Journalists Association also provided feedback.
The Parliamentary National Action Charter Forum, held to mark the 21st anniversary of the charter, was under the joint patronage of National Assembly and Parliament Speaker Fouzia Zainal and Shura Council Chairman Ali Saleh Al Saleh.
Parliament first vice-chairman Abdulnabi Salman said the charter paved the way for the country’s future developments and progress.
“The charter was the platform from which the country’s future stride went on over the past two decades and now is the time to move into a new phase in national work,” he said.
“Better public representation would enable people to have a bigger say in decision-making and partnership in plans as the country draws up a roadmap for the future.
“As we, legislators, have succeeded jointly with the government in previous years, there has to be a new approach to reforms, modernisation, facing obstacles and different challenges without harming public welfare and the country’s development.”
Shura Council second vice-chairwoman Jameela Nusaif said the country’s progress should be built on a strong package in which everyone contributes.
“Sustainable development should be an ongoing process in political, economic, social, cultural and environmental fields as it ensures that national unity continues amongst all community sects,” he said.
“This should be accompanied with equal opportunities and treatment, the rule of law, freedom of expression and social solidarity.”
Constitutional Court secretary general Dr Shaikh Sabah bin Hamad Al Khalifa, Public Prosecution Attorney General Assistant Wael Buallay, Bahrain Chamber second vice-chairman Mohammed Al Kooheji, Bahrain Journalists Association board member Mohammed Bahar and National Institution for Human Rights vice-chairman Khaled Al Shaer, amongst others presented an insight of existing developments and future plans.
Several legislators also spoke during the forum and expressed utmost appreciation of His Majesty King Hamad’s wise leadership, praising the quality achievements of Bahrain in his prosperous era.
They prayed to Allah Almighty to protect the King and wished Bahrain more growth and prosperity under his leadership.
