ALMOST 90 per cent of employees at health centres are Bahrainis, it has emerged.
Representatives from the Health Ministry and government hospitals revealed it yesterday during a meeting with Parliament’s Bahrainisation committee, headed by MP Ebrahim Al Nefaei.
The Bahrainisation rate at health centres is 88pc while it’s 63pc in government hospitals, the representatives told MPs.
“The Health Science College is currently under Bahrain University and we are pushing to move it under the Supreme Council for Health as more Bahrainisation is being sought in the health sector,” said Mr Al Nefaei.
“Autonomous employment structure for hospitals and health centres needs to be fast-tracked by the Civil Service Commission to help recruit more citizens.”
Meanwhile, the committee also met with representatives from the Bahrain Chamber, who revealed that out of 86 employees in the business body, only one was an expatriate.
“We have proposed forming a labour market Bahrainisation follow-up committee under the chamber to ensure that employers give first priority to nationals,” said Mr Al Nefaei.
The committee also debated a proposal to employ fresh Bahraini graduates in law, media, social sciences, Sharia and dentistry specialisations for a minimum of two years.
They also debated another proposal to oblige companies that the government has 50pc or more shares in to come up with a full Bahrainisation plan and the time needed to implement it.
