There is a huge demand for a golden ticket to a decade-long, happy and prosperous life in Bahrain, latest figures reveal.
More than 400 golden residency permits have so far been issued and around 1,000 requests received by immigration authorities, reflecting demand for a long-term residence visa.
Nationality, Passports and Residence Affairs (NPRA) started accepting requests for inclusion in the Golden Residency Visa Programme since its launch in February to allow residents and other categories to permanently reside in the kingdom.
The 10-year Golden Residency Visa, is part of the Economic Recovery Plan, open to four categories – residents, retirees, property owners and talented individuals in various fields who can contribute to Bahrain’s ongoing success.
“More than 1,000 requests have been received, and more than 400 golden residency permits have been issued (since its launch),” an NPRA spokesman told the GDN.
“There is a high demand for the golden residency visa because of its privileges. It is valid for 10 years, and the holder of a golden residency can apply for his first-degree relatives and even hire domestic workers.”
To qualify for the special permit, existing residents must have continuously resided in Bahrain for at least five years and earned an average basic salary of BD2,000 monthly or more throughout the five-year period.
For retirees, they need to submit a salary proof of BD4,000 or more.
In the case of expatriate property owners, the title deeds of their property should be of a total value that is not less than BD200,000.
Highly-talented individuals need to submit a certificate proving their skill set that will be vetted by a special committee.
Valid health insurance is mandatory for all categories that apply for the Golden Residency Visa Programme.
Those granted the special visa must stay in Bahrain for 90 days a year to ensure the permit remains valid.
Meanwhile, the spokesman added plans are in the pipeline to add more categories under the special permit.
“There is a plan to include investors, entrepreneurs and businessmen, in which more details will be announced later,” the spokesman added.
He added a major awareness drive is underway and eligible expats have received text messages and even calls from the NPRA’s call centre informing them about the long-term residence visa.
“Many expats have received calls from the NPRA’s call centre (17399764) or even text messages stating they are eligible for the Golden Visa.
“A major awareness drive will be carried out that will include meetings with companies with employees eligible to receive the permit.
“Promotion campaigns will be conducted through Bahrain’s missions abroad and on social media.”
Those interested can visit bahrain.bh to apply for the permit and the fee is BD300 per person and a non-refundable BD4 application fee.
