Davion Berry and Devin Ebanks, with solid support from the other players, ensured that Manama will have a shot at the Zain Bahrain Basketball League title when they defeated Muharraq 87-73 in the second match of the best-of-three series to level the scores at one-game all at Khalifa Sport City last night.
Muharraq had managed to edge past Manama 96-94 in the first play-off.
After the teams ended the first quarter on level terms at 19-19, Manama surged ahead in the next two quarters – 28-23 and 22-17 – to open up a 10-point lead before taking the last quarter 18-14 and taking the title series into the deciding contest, which will be played on Monday.
Ebanks was the top scorer for the winners with 23 points, ably supported by Berry scoring 22.
Manama showed their team’s prowess with Ahmed Salman (13 points), Mohammed Ameer (12) and Hassan Nowrooz (10) also getting into double figures.
The stars of Muharraq’s win in the series opener - DeWayne Jackson and Sammy Monroe - once again did not let their fans down with Jackson topping the scorers list with 27 points and Monroe notching 24. Only three of their other teammates could get on to the scorers list and none could get into double figures.
