Locals living near Mount National Park in Kenya called the national wildlife service in distress after they spotted what they thought was a lion hiding in a hedge.
Armed officers rushed to the scene to “mitigate a possible Human Wildlife Conflict case” only to find out that the ‘lion’ was in fact a shopping bag with a lion’s face printed on it, sold by the grocery retailer Carrefour.
The bag, carrying plants, had been placed in the hedge by a local homeowner.
Despite the false alarm, wildlife authorities lauded the locals for their vigilance and their swift action in a statement published on Twitter.
