HER Majesty Queen Elizabeth’s Platinum Jubilee was marked with a “Commonwealth Songs of Praise” at the St Christopher’s Cathedral in Manama last night.
Worshippers and members of the wider community, hailing from different backgrounds and nationalities, voiced their celebratory spirit with uplifting stories of faith starting with an opening prayer and hymn.
This was followed by a reading from Princess Elizabeth’s broadcast to the Commonwealth on her 21st birthday in South Africa on April 21, 1947.
The Queen’s speeches over the years were also read out throughout the service.
The evening also featured hymns and songs in different languages chosen by ambassadors and leading members in the community, and included a rendition of Beatles’ Blackbird by a trio from St Christopher’s School.
Taking part in the special service were event organiser Reverend Chris Butt, who has served as dean of the cathedral for 10 years until 2019 and is now back for a brief period to lead services and provide pastoral care to the congregation, Rev’d Canon Stephen Thanapaul, British Ambassador Roddy Drummond and wife Yasmin, Sri Lankan Ambassador Pradeepa Saram, British Defence Attaché Lieutenant Colonel Ally Kern, and other dignitaries.
