I AM writing to congratulate Mohammed Al A’Ali and express my heartfelt appreciation on his excellent article titled “‘Pride Month’ outrage” (GDN, June 13).
Not only was this piece well written, but it addresses a highly pertinent topic in light of Islamic values and morals. This is so badly needed as I am afraid the GDN is usually – 99 per cent of the time! – a completely Indian and Western centric newspaper, which displays utter disregard and insensitivity to Islamic cultural values and concern.
As a writer and linguist, I cannot help but notice – in dismay and fury – how blatantly GDN omits reporting on the current terrible atrocities against Indian Muslims by the fascist BJP ruling party, or – at best – downplays such news by positioning it on page 3 or thereon!
The same stance is evident when it comes to Israeli atrocities in Palestine, and even in the sacred precinct of Al Aqsa Mosque. Yet, a “big, fat Indian wedding” is reported on page 1. This unabashed undermining – by the GDN – of news relevant to all Muslims and Bahrainis is highly obvious and offensive to any educated reader.
Once again, I want to thank Mohammed very much for writing from an Islamic perspective and highlighting this very profound topic that concerns Bahraini society at large and threatens its Islamic values.
I hope to see more articles from Mohammed.

EDITOR’S NOTE: It’s good to know that you appreciated our chief reporter’s recent article.
I assure you that the GDN Media team tries its best to be aware of local sensitivities, as well as service our broad and loyal readership which include Bahrainis and a rich variety of expatriates from all over the world.
I am not saying we get it right all the time, but we certainly try.
Under the same theme, as the old saying goes, you cannot please all the people, all the time.
As the kingdom’s leading English-language newspaper, I appreciate your concerns and will take on board your opinions and criticisms when it comes to making news judgements.
Sincerely, thank you for caring.
