Eco-friendly projects plan for Al Louzi lake
Oh, like the initial plans for Buhair Valley?
@thriller.xf
Yes and then filling it up for housing development...
@environmanbahrain
Encourage tourism and deter wildlife? That’s what happened in Tubli when government housing was built by mangroves. 200 plus flamingoes became 30.
@mrsfulad
Bringing tourism of any sort to a natural habitat usually doesn’t have great results for the habitat...
@kimhijris
Exactly. Talking about eco tourism means nothing on or around the water ... boats or floating restaurants have nothing to do with eco tourism...
@environmanbahrain
So to turn something eco-friendly you want to bring more people to the area which they will litter on and pollute? Smart and very “eco-friendly”.
@omar.altaie.731
Humans are the “smartest creatures” on earth.
@environmanbahrain
One day there will be a water shortage all over the world; we should do more to protect fresh water.
@you_belong_with_memes
They already ruined Louzi lake thanks to filling half of it in building houses round it on two sides and the dirtiest industrial area also next door. They probably cannot ruin it anymore and I doubt birds migrate there anyway, they may as well try and finish it off with tourist boats, rubbish in the water and if we are lucky a floating mall as we don’t have one of those.
@bahrainbarmyarmy
The best answer I have read all week – and yes any body of water with NO natural habitat on its shores is environmentally inert. Maybe I should also mention it is not natural; it started its life as a sand quarry.
@birdsofbahrain
So what will happen to the birds, wildlife and marine species if we turn this lake into a THEME PARK!
Patrick Egan
My thoughts exactly!
Ruth Cable
That’s why it says ECO-FRIENDLY.
Javier A Alcaide
When it comes to commercialism and local projects, I’m afraid the local fauna and flora are totally ignored, not just here in Bahrain, but most developing countries.
Patrick Egan
I can see that. They can say anything and don’t follow it later.
Javier A Alcaide
Having ferries and hundreds of people is not eco-friendly! You will destroy this area plus all bird and marine life. Protect this treasure, please, Bahrain. It’s not all about money.
Liz Shaw
Who needs birds and marine species when you have ferries and water rides. Build a mall there too.
Hani Taqi
Yes, good idea, screw up the last and only natural lake left.
Eric Caes
Ferries and water rides ... eco-friendly?
Jean Nicolaï
Eco-friendly means no engine-driven stuff, paddle canoeing and limited people at any moment. Whatever you bring with you, and is not eaten or drunk (packaging, plastic) take it back with you.
Jean Nicolaï
Five tonnes of garbage removed from beaches
This was great to see on Nurana Island as we walked the dogs. But then, of course, as we went to throw our stuff in the bins about half way up the kite beach we find a pile of old juice cartons and wrappers and tin foil thrown on the ground – all of them perhaps 10 metres from the bin. Some people just do not deserve to be out in public.
@bahrainbarmyarmy
How about a fine for littering please? We need it in this country.
@namo_dlamini
Find the garbage’s source!
