THE contributions of Bahraini women were highlighted at an event organised by the Bahrain Chamber (BCCI).
The celebration, named The Cube, yesterday featured a presentation, a panel discussion and an honouring ceremony for some of the country’s leading women.
It was held to commemorate Bahraini Women’s Day marked on December 1 every year.
Chamber chairman Sameer Naas expressed pride in ‘women who have made Bahrain proud across various sectors’.
He praised Bahrain’s efforts in addressing gender wage gap, asserting that it was ‘almost non-existent’ in the country.
“In Bahrain’s workplaces, women are equal to men, they do the same jobs and earn as much as the men do. This is not necessarily the case in the US and even in many countries in Europe,” he said.
Mr Nass also praised His Royal Highness Prince Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa, Crown Prince and Prime Minister, for his decision to abolish the flexi visa.
“The move has not only reduced the number of illegal workers, but also resulted in more Bahrainis finding jobs, especially women,” he added.
The event saw Bahraini businesswomen being honoured for their contributions and efforts. Among them was Bahrain International Federation for Business and Professional Women president Shaikha Hind bint Salman Al Khalifa, who was praised for her major role in empowering women.
Bahrain Businesswomen Society co-founder Ahlam Janahi, entrepreneur and pioneering chef Afnan Al Zayani, BCCI board member Batool Dadabhai, Intellect Resources managing partner Sabah Al Moayed and Medline Dental Laboratory owner Dr Lamya Mahmood, among others, were also honoured.
Local and regional organisations and federations that work alongside the chamber in promoting Bahraini women in the workforce were also highlighted at the event.
They include the International Chamber of Commerce, the IWEC Foundation, the International Organisation of Employers and the International Labour Organisation.
