Gamers and eSports athletes are being invited to take part in the first video game championship of the year, being organised later this month.
Organised in collaboration with Dallah Promotions, the Fuddruckers eSports Championship will take place from January 19 to 21 at the restaurant’s Al Liwan-Hamala location.
“We are inviting the strongest and best players from Bahrain and the region to participate in this tournament,” Dallah Promotions managing partner Khalid Bukhari said at a Press conference organised yesterday at Fuddruckers in Sanad.
“We would like to thank our partners and especially first deputy chairman of the Supreme Council for Youth and Sports, General Sports Authority (GSA) chairman and Bahrain Olympic Committee president Shaikh Khalid bin Hamad Al Khalifa for his vision and efforts to highlight eSports alongside other professional sports.
“Of course, worldwide, eSports is a multi-billion dollar industry, but we are more interested in nurturing the community within Bahrain and this idea was inspired by the growing presence at the Bahrain Comic Con’s eSports hall last year.”
The tournament will encompass three games in its inaugural edition – FIFA 23, Rocket League and Tekken 7.
More than $3,500 (BD1,320) worth of cash prizes are set to be given out to the best gamers in the championship, which will feature pre-games and championship battles throughout the three-day event.
Key partners for the tournament include the Youth Affairs Ministry as well as Food Vest Holding, which owns the Caribou Coffee and Fuddruckers brands in the kingdom.
“We are hoping to make this an annual championship, and have it be the first eSports championship in Bahrain every year – akin to how Bahrain is the first race on the F1 calendar,” Food Vest Holding chief executive Mateo Ramos added.
“During the early years of Fuddruckers in Bahrain, children and families would love coming to the restaurant not just for the food but also the arcade games, so as we re-envisioned our brand, we decided to make eSports a part of our restaurant experience and host this tournament, with plans to continue doing so every year.”
Ahmed Fuad from Bahrain Comic Con also addressed attendees at the Press conference, highlighting the importance of nurturing Bahrain’s gaming community and all the groups within it.
