A LONG-TIME resident of Bahrain is returning home after nearly four decades.
Sidney Ponniah, an engineer by profession, was given a warm farewell by friends and colleagues at a ceremony organised by the Institution of Engineers India (IEI) of which he was a founding member.
Mr Ponniah, who arrived in Bahrain in 1985, will be settling back in Chennai, India with wife Ashalatha.
He was chief engineer at Farry Kazerooni Architects and Consultants, a company specialising in structural engineering.
At the farewell ceremony, Mr Ponniah was presented with a memento as a token of appreciation for his services to the IEI chapter since 1988; he was its chairman twice.
He thanked Bahrain for its “generosity, freedom of worship and its delicious multi-cuisine”.
Present at the ceremony were chapter chairman Elango Jeyaprakash and former chairman PK Kasinathan.
The Ponniahs’ two children, Rahul and Priyanka, are married and living in the US.
