The Muharraq Municipal Council has raised the issue of accommodation for expat labourers in Muharraq’s residential neighbourhoods, on an urgent basis, after detecting scenes threatening Bahrain’s heritage and identity of the iconic project in Muharraq – the Pearling Path – the kingdom’s second Unesco World Heritage site.
“The Pearling Trail, which is supervised by the Bahrain Authority for Culture and Antiquities (Baca), extends for about 3km from the pearling sites to Siyadi House in the heart of Muharraq, passing through slums inhabited by expatriate workers, which affects the project’s heritage identity and its features,” Muharraq Municipal Council chairman Abdulaziz Al Na’ar told our sister paper Akhbar Al Khaleej .
