Bahrain is keen to bring bilateral talks with Qatar to success to end the pending issues between the two countries, Foreign Minister Dr Abdullatif Al Zayani has said.
He stressed the talks are in accordance with AlUla Declaration, issued after a GCC Summit in Saudi Arabia, in a way that achieves the aspirations of both nations for security, stability and prosperity.
It was agreed to hold periodic, regular meetings with the aim of achieving the desired goals, and settling all outstanding contentious issues, he said.
He was speaking during a meeting the foreign ministry held yesterday with the legislative authority.
The GCC is important in enhancing the strategic and economic depth of the region in general and Bahrain in particular, the Foreign Minister said.
He highlighted that the region was facing challenges which threatened its security.
These challenges included the ongoing conflicts, external ambitions, the role of regional powers, the Russia-Ukraine war and its impact on food supplies, Dr Al Zayani said.
This is in addition to the continued presence of terrorist organisations and their destructive role, which requires co-operation and efforts to confront them, he said.
The minister noted His Majesty King Hamad’s call to resolve conflicts through diplomatic means.
His Majesty also has a major role in diplomatic work through his participation in meetings and summits with the heads of friendly countries, which contributed to strengthening Bahrain’s position in international forums, he added.
He said Bahrain’s strategy and policy are based on five pillars, namely achieving peace in the region, building bilateral relations with everyone, promoting and protecting human rights, achieving sustainable development, health, environmental, food and water security, as well as environmental protection.
