A SCHOLARSHIPS programme aimed at equipping Bahraini youth aged between 18 and 35 with the skills to become job-ready for the new-age careers in technology is said to expand.
The 100 Tech Scholarships Programme is a fully-funded development of hi-tech and in-demand talent in the country among Bahraini youth.
It is backed financially by the Abdulaziz and Sara Kanoo Foundation, which organised a graduation of the first edition of the programme in Adliya recently.
“Our first batch of graduates that happened at The Terminal in Block 338 was 100 and we are planning to give scholarships to 900 more for a total of 1,000,” said foundation managing director Bader Abdulaziz Kanoo. “We want Bahrain to be a knowledge base hub with talent all around,” he added.
“The growth of the digital economy is a major priority for Bahrain and our initiative comes in light of this. The aim is to accelerate the development of the country’s talent and expertise in the ever-growing media and technology sectors. Like Aramco tap line built by Bahraini welders, we hope to have local IT talents ready to export.”
The six-week programme, run in partnership with Canada-based Digital Media Academy, was launched in November last year and featured 50 graduates.
It is run in-person and offers in-demand tracks such as coding and artificial intelligence, game development, creative design and web development.
