A HOUSEWIFE allegedly hit police officers with a wooden stick, scratched at their faces and cursed them in a foreign language, a court heard yesterday.
The 53-year-old Bahraini woman is on trial at the High Criminal Court for assaulting, disrespecting and publicly hurling vulgarities at three policewomen.
A police corporal told prosecutors that the incident occurred when officers asked the defendant to leave her cell at the Reformation and Rehabilitation Centre.
“I went to the defendant’s cell with two other officers asking her to exit it, but she refused and threatened to beat us with a stick if we did not let her be,” said the 29-year-old woman.
“We pepper-sprayed her but she resisted arrest, scratched my face and cursed me in Hindi,” she added.
Another officer, a vice-corporal, claimed that the defendant kicked her while she was trying to handcuff her.
A medical report showed that the corporal had a 3.5cm and a 5.3cm scratch around her nose.
The defendant reportedly has several prior criminal cases against her.
