A team representing the Prisoners and Detainees Rights Commission (PDRC) visited the Jaw Reformation and Rehabilitation Centre to learn about conditions and the treatment of inmates.
The team members listened to their testimonies regarding news being circulated on the hunger strike. They interviewed a number of inmates and found out about the way they are being dealt with. They listened to the demands made by striking inmates.
They carried out a field data collection and visited the medical clinic in the centre to ensure inmates are being provided with integrated health services around the clock.
Discussions took place with the medical officials to verify the medical protocols followed during the strike.
The PDRC affirmed that it would spare no effort in following up on the conditions of all inmates in the centre, including those who are on hunger strike.
It said it also took note of the most important observations made by the inmates so that they can be used in proposing executive recommendations to improve some administrative procedures in the centre in a manner that does not violate the Reformation and Rehabilitation Institution Law and its executive regulations.
