The Lower Criminal Court sentenced two individuals to six months in prison in separate cases for forging university degrees.
The Public Prosecution said the two expats had reportedly presented falsified credentials to private schools, where they were seeking employment as teachers.
The certificates were forwarded to a specialised institution for authentication and accreditation, and it was discovered that they were fake. The Education Ministry reported the two expats to the prosecution, which carried out its own inspection of the certificates, and arrived at the same conclusion.
The universities, to whom the two degrees are attributed, both confirmed that the certificates were faked. Based on that evidence, and witness statements, the defendants were referred to criminal trial before being convicted of forgery.
