THE British School of Bahrain (BSB) welcomed students back to the new academic year yesterday with warm words of encouragement, and a message by executive headmaster John Maguire.
“It is nice to hear laughter and excitement in the corridors again,” he said, as excited students and eager teachers streamed through the gates at the school’s Hamala campus after the summer break.
“BSB has made a huge investment over the summer, our staff have worked on their professional development, so this is shaping up to be an exciting year.
“We had fantastic A-level and GCSE results last time, and we can emulate that again.
“We have a range of exciting events, such as the Council of British International Schools Music Festival in February.
“To the students: Be happy, do your best, and enjoy your time here,” added Mr Maguire.
Meanwhile, students expressed their excitement at being back in school, and said they were looking forward to another productive year of learning.
Among those aiming to better themselves academically, and exceed their achievements from last year, are 12th graders, Ahmed Hassan and Mia Kazerooni.
“I am excited and I feel good,” said Ahmed. “I cannot wait to work with the teachers again.
“Thanks to their efforts, I got good grades last year, but I want to do even better.”
Mia shared her schoolmate’s belief in the teachers and her capabilities. “I am aiming for the best grades,” she said.
“The teachers have helped me in the past, and I believe I can do it again.”
Shakespearean enthusiast Tala, aged 10, said she was looking forward to the Shakespeare Day on campus.
“I am really looking forward to it,” said the sixth grader.
“Romeo and Juliet is my favourite play; I hope we get to do something on it.”
Students, however, were not the only ones looking forward to map their progress.
Nada Humaidan, aged 30, mother of Mohamed Baker from the infant school, expressed her happiness with the teachers who helped her over the past year.
“The teachers have been amazing,” she said.
“Mohamed is a very energetic boy, and he has developed beyond my expectations.
“I look forward to seeing him get even better.”
