THE prestigious Unesco King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa Prize for the Use of Information and Communication Technologies (ICT) in Education for 2022 has been presented to winners, China and Ireland, at a glittering ceremony in Paris.
Deputised by His Majesty King Hamad, Education Minister Dr Mohammed Mubarak Juma took part in the ceremony yesterday.
It was co-organised by the ministry and the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organisation (Unesco).
Present at the ceremony in the French capital were Unesco assistant director general for education Stefania Giannini, senior officials from the Unesco and the ministry as well as ambassadors, media personnel, ICT researchers and Bahraini students studying at French universities.
Ms Giannini praised the prestigious award and the reputation it has gained over the past 14 editions, commending Bahrain’s interest in and great support for the prize.
In his speech, Dr Juma conveyed congratulations from His Majesty and His Royal Highness Prince Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa, Crown Prince and Prime Minister, to

The minister also congratulated the prize winners, who had been chosen from among 95 nominees from 56 countries, for the contribution of their
projects to enhancing digital education.

The ceremony featured a film prepared by the ministry about education in Bahrain and the prize. A student orchestra band from Bahrain also performed.
The Education Minister and Ms Giannini conferred the prize on the winners of the 14th edition, themed, ‘The use of public platforms to ensure inclusive access to digital education content’.
The prize was presented to Republic of Ireland Minister of State at the Department of Further and Higher Education, Research, Innovation and Science Niall Collins and Ross Woods, senior manager at National Forum for the Enhancement of Teaching and Learning in Higher Education at the Higher Education Authority (Platform) in the National Resource Hub project.
It was also presented to Chinese Vice Minister of Education Chen Jie and National Centre for Educational Technology director general Ping Li for their project on the ‘Smart Education of China’.
