THE new sports city in Sakhir is on the drawing board, Works Minister Ibrahim Al Hawaj told MPs, the Shura Council was informed yesterday.
He was responding to a question by MP Mohammed Al Olaiwi on the progress of work on the city.
“The consultant has completed the detailed drawings and is currently working on the final version and the tender requirements to issue it for bidders,” said the minister.
“Once a bidder is selected, work will begin immediately and it will take 36 months to complete.”
Requests for new mosques and demolition and reconstruction to the existing ones, in addition to revamps or expansions, are being addressed without any delay or tardiness, Justice, Islamic Affairs and Endowments Minister Nawaf Al Maawda told MPs in another response.
Procedures
In his written reply to a question by MP Mamdooh Al Saleh on requests made for mosques (new and existing), the minister said work is authorised following legal and technical procedures by relevant authorities.
“We receive a large number of requests for mosques from the Jaffari and Sunni Waqf (Endowments) Directorates and following co-ordination with relevant authorities we start work whether on new or existing ones,” said Mr Al Maawda.
Meanwhile, in another written response from Sustainable Development Minister Noor Al Khulaif to a question on UN Development Goals by Parliament public utilities and environment affairs committee chairman Hisham Al Awadhi, she said the country was surging ahead with plans to meet the goals.
The Shura Council was also notified about a written reply from Health Minister Dr Jalila Al Sayyed on a question by member Dr Bassam Albinmohammed on trans fat foods.
