BAHRAIN has donated seven ambulances to help war-hit Palestinians being treated at the Jordanian Field Hospital in Gaza.
A Bahraini delegation, led by Royal Humanitarian Foundation (RHF) board chairman Dr Mustafa Al Sayed, visited Amman and handed over the life-saving vehicles to Jordanian Hashemite Charitable Organisation, following directives by His Majesty King Hamad.
The seven fully equipped ambulances include two mobile clinics donated by Kaaf Humanitarian, charity wing of Al Eslah Society in Bahrain.
The Bahraini delegation also comprised RHF secretary general Shaikh Ali bin Khalifa Al Khalifa, Kaaf Humanitarian board chairman Taraq Taha Al Shaikh, chief executive Mohammed Sayar and Palestine Support Society board chairman Abdul Monem Al Meer.
The GDN reported in January that Kaaf Humanitarian had donated six ambulances to RHF as part of its relief work to help Palestinians.
“This generous support is in line with the directives of the leadership to continue RHF’s aid efforts to support our Palestinian brothers in Gaza,” said Shaikh Ali yesterday.
“Bahrain’s humanitarian contributions aim to strengthen the medical capabilities in Gaza strip by providing ambulance and emergency services to the Palestinian people.”
Meanwhile, Jordanian Hashemite Charitable Organisation secretary general Dr Hussain Al Shibli said a group of wounded and sick Palestinians from Gaza were currently receiving treatment in hospitals in Jordan, thanks to its partnership with the RHF.
He said they were working within the agreement signed with the RHF to receive another batch of wounded people and offer treatment.
He highlighted the desperate need for medical services since the conflict between Israel and Hamas broke out on October 7.
“We praise the efforts of the Bahraini leadership to support the people in Gaza during these tough times, which reflects its noble stance and standing with Palestinians,” said Dr Al Shibli.
The Bahraini delegation also visited the King Hussein Cancer Centre in Amman, where they were briefed on treatment for Palestinians evacuated from Gaza. They met several patients and wished them speedy recovery.
Pregnant women and new mothers in Gaza are struggling to keep themselves and their babies alive amid critical shortages of food, water and medical care.
An estimated 8,000 patients need to be medically evacuated from Gaza, including more than 6,000 trauma-related patients, according to the World Health Organisation (WHO).
At least 30,878 Palestinians have been killed in Gaza and 72,402 injured between October 7 and March 8, according to the Health Ministry in Gaza.
The WHO says most of the enclave’s 36 hospitals have stopped working. Only 12 are partially functioning – six in the north and six in the south – and one, the Al Amal Hospital in Khan Younis, is considered to be minimally functional.
Nasser Hospital in the southern city of Khan Younis, which was Gaza’s largest functioning hospital, is out of service with no power and shortage of staff.
Fighters from Hamas, which controls Gaza, killed 1,200 people in a rampage into southern Israel and took 253 hostages, by Israeli tallies. The ensuing war has displaced about 2.3 million people according to Gaza’s authorities and caused a grave humanitarian crisis including acute shortages of food, water and medicine.
The GDN yesterday launched a joint campaign, SaveaLifeinGaza, in partnership with the BRCS’s sister organisation, the Palestine Red Crescent Society.
