FOOTBALL – Bahrain bowed to Syria 1-2 last night in the 11th West Asian Football Federation (WAFF) U16 Boys Championship in Jordan.
The match was played at Polo Stadium in Al Hussein Youth City in Amman.
Hussain Zuhair was on target for the Bahrainis in the 13th minute of the match. His goal gave them the slim advantage at the break. But the nationals then conceded two goals in the final 45 minutes, sealing the game.
With the result, the Bahrainis were eliminated from the competition after finishing with just one point in their two games. They had earlier played to a goalless draw with Palestine in their opening Group C assignment last week.
The Syrians and Palestinians then also had a share of the points in their clash, with the two teams drawing 1-1. Syria made it through to the competition’s semi-finals.
