A US-Jordanian man was shot and killed inside a Chicago tobacco shop after refusing to sell cigarettes to an underage customer who failed to produce identification.
Family members identified the victim as 34-year-old Mohammad Faiq Al-Hashaisheh, who was working when the 17-year-old customer entered the store at around 9.27pm on Thursday.
When Faiq declined the sale due to the customer's inability to verify his age, the teenager left the premises and returned shortly after armed with a handgun.
The suspect allegedly fired directly at Faiq, striking him in the neck before fleeing the scene.
Faiq succumbed to his injuries shortly after emergency responders arrived.
Chicago police officers have identified the 17-year-old suspect and are actively searching for him to face criminal charges.
The victim had lived in the United States for 15 years and leaves behind his pregnant wife and four young children.
