DOZENS of volunteers picked up rubbish as part of an educational awareness campaign aimed at protecting the wildlife and environment in Sakhir.
The ‘Preserve Your Wilderness’ initiative, launched by the Southern Governorate in the presence of Southern Governor Shaikh Khalifa bin Ali Al Khalifa, comes as part of the governorate’s efforts to preserve the cleanliness of the desert during the camping season.
It is being held in co-operation with the governorate’s Police Directorate, the Southern Municipal Council, the General Directorate of Traffic, Civil Defence, Alba and volunteers from the Buhair Youth Centre.
The initiative comes as part of efforts to raise awareness among campers and desert-goers on the importance of maintaining a healthy, clean and safe environment in order to ensure the season goes off without any issues.
The desert area near the Tree of Life, an important landmark in the kingdom, was also cleaned up as part of the campaign.
