Omani Foreign Minister Badr Al Busaidi has called for a new regional security framework and a non-aggression pact including all states around the Gulf.
Speaking at Girton College at the University of Cambridge, Al Busaidi urged regional nations to take greater responsibility for their collective security.
He proposed a security framework encompassing all eight Gulf nations, including Iraq and Iran.
Al Busaidi argued that any security arrangement excluding Tehran is 'inherently unstable' and 'structurally unsound'.
He emphasised that establishing a non-aggression pact should remain the primary objective regardless of diplomatic relations with Iran.
The minister added that the region's reliance on external powers for security has continued for too long.
