Sensitive data belonging to 64 million job seekers was exposed on McDonald's McHire AI system in a monumental blunder, due to the use of the world's most common password: ‘123456’.
Discovered in late June by security researchers, the massive oversight allowed unauthorised access to applicants’ chat history with McHire’s chatbot ‘Olivia’.
After the news became public, McDonald's acted swiftly to patch the issue, and it was resolved the very next day.
There was no indication that the data was used maliciously, but such security lapses have caused many data leaks in the past.
