Chinese authorities are investigating a brake pedal bracket fracture issue in Huawei-backed EV brand Maextro’s V800 vehicle following online reports, the industry ministry said yesterday.
Maextro, the luxury EV brand co-developed by Huawei and JAC, has been under scrutiny after a test video released last week by ByteDance’s auto platform DCar showed the brake pedal bracket on three V800 MPVs broke during multiple emergency stops.
China’s industry ministry said a joint investigation group was set up with the market and cyberspace regulators to look into the issue and they would release relevant findings in due course.
Maextro later said on social media that it would fully co-operate with the investigation and is committed to safeguarding consumers’ legitimate rights and interests and supporting the healthy development of the EV industry.
The company said last week that no brake pedal bracket had fractured in actual user cases since the start of vehicle deliveries, and it would optimise the design of the brake pedal bracket base and offer delivered users a free upgrade.
Maextro hasn’t filed a recall with the market regulator yet.
The luxury EREV priced from over $110,000 went on sale in August.
Days after the reported brake pedal bracket fracture, the industry ministry proposed tighter oversight of automakers’ innovative designs and research and development testing.
