HANDBALL – FOUR of the kingdom’s top handball clubs are set to battle from today for the 2025 edition of the Bahrain Super Cup.
Reigning four-time tournament champions Al Najma headline the cast, which also includes Al Shabab, Al Ahli, and Al Dair.
Najma and Shabab face off tonight at the Bahrain Handball Federation (BHF) Arena in a winner-take-all affair, while Ahli battle Dair tomorrow at the same venue. Both games are scheduled for 7pm throw-offs.
The winners will move on to this year’s Bahrain Super Cup final, which is scheduled to be played on Friday, also starting at 7pm.
Najma have so far been dominant in the competition, winning the coveted trophy six times in its seven editions. Their first was in the Bahrain Super Cup’s maiden event in 2017, which Najma followed with back-to-back crowns in 2018.
Barbar were then the only other winners of the trophy in 2019, and since then, Najma have emerged triumphant from 2021 to 2024. They will now be gunning for a fifth successive title.
Najma are also the defending champions in the Khalid Bin Hamad Bahrain Handball League, and have so far remained undefeated this season after six contests. Ahli follow with four wins from six games, Shabab have four wins from five, and Dair have two wins to go with three losses to date.
