MOTORSPORT – McLaren expressed their immense pride in securing back-to-back Formula One constructors’ titles at the Singapore Grand Prix on Sunday, with McLaren CEO Zak Brown hailing their historic achievement as “pretty awesome”.
The Bahrain-owned champions have enjoyed runaway success in 2025 after wrapping up the 2024 crown – their first since 1998 – by a margin of just 14 points.
This season, however, with star drivers Lando Norris and Oscar Piastri finishing third and fourth, respectively, at Marina Bay, McLaren sealed the deal with a total of 650 points – putting the team an insurmountable 325 clear of their nearest challengers Mercedes.
It is the joint-earliest constructors’ victory in history, according to mclaren.com, having been secured with six of the 24 grands prix still to run.
It also ensured that McLaren moved into a clear second on the all-time list with 10 constructors’ victories, and it was the first time the team retained the championship since 1990-91, when McLaren became the first team to win four successive titles.
“It’s pretty awesome,” Brown was quoted as saying by mclaren.com. “We have an unbelievable team here trackside, and back at the factory – all the men and women have done an awesome job.
“The whole leadership team, (team principal) Andrea (Stella), our owners and shareholders, it’s such a team effort – it’s awesome to go back-to-back, it’s been a while since we’ve done it.”
A beaming Stella added: “It’s an incredible emotion. I want to share it with the team and thank them for the incredible work, with six races to go, which looks unbelievable, but that’s thanks to the great work at McLaren.
“It’s teamwork and it’s great that teamwork is rewarded like this.”
Norris celebrated the title on his in-lap after classifying third for his 14th podium of the season, and revelled in the achievement.
“Another title is just a great thing – another constructors’ championship,” said Norris in the post-race Press conference. “It feels the same as in 2024. To get the title last year was quite an achievement, if you look at where we were three years ago.
“We’ve outdone every team in terms of development, and in a time where it’s almost harder to do than ever with more restrictions – the budget cap, less wind tunnel time – it should be more difficult to dominate, but that’s what the team has done and they’ve given us by a long way the best car on the grid – it’s a nice thing to say, and always puts a smile on your face.
“We’ve done well, Oscar and I have been pushing each other. You don’t see that at any other team.”
Norris joined McLaren in 2017 before stepping up to a race seat in 2019, and has spent his entire career with the team.
“I’ve been with McLaren since I started – it was a very different time and place from where we are now, so that journey makes it more special,” Norris reflected. “To know the downs, to see the rise we’ve had, the teamwork, and the changes.
“The leadership from Zak and Andrea has turned things around and made us, as a team, the best in the world – and that’s not a thing many people get to say.”
Piastri has also spent the entirety of his F1 career with the team, having stepped up to a race seat in 2023, and marvelled at the achievement.
“I’m very proud of the whole team,” Piastri said after the race. “This is one of the two objectives we set out to achieve every year – winning the constructors’ championship and the drivers’ championship – so to achieve it with this many races left of the season is incredibly impressive.
“The car we’ve had this season has been nothing short of amazing, so I’m just very happy for the whole team.”
Highlighting the success of McLaren’s two drivers, Brown said: “They’ve driven brilliantly all season. You can’t win the constructors’ without two awesome race drivers.
“As you can see, we’re letting them race. There’s a lot of races to go and hopefully there’s some more victories for both of them.”
