ASIAN YOUTH GAMES – His Majesty King Hamad’s representative for humanitarian work and youth affairs and Supreme Council for Youth and Sport (SCYS) chairman Shaikh Nasser bin Hamad Al Khalifa received yesterday SCYS first deputy chairman, General Sports Authority (GSA) chairman, and Bahrain Olympic Committee (BOC) president Shaikh Khalid bin Hamad Al Khalifa, along with members of the supreme organising committee and executive committee of the third Asian Youth Games, hosted recently by the kingdom.
Shaikh Nasser said that the efforts of the committees and volunteers embody the sense of belonging and generosity of the Bahraini people and reflect Bahrain’s national capabilities to host major sporting events, in line with the highest international standards.
Shaikh Nasser further highlighted that the continuous support of His Majesty King Hamad and His Royal Highness Prince Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa, Crown Prince and Prime Minister, are central to national achievements across various domains, particularly in youth and sports, which are experiencing a period of development under the guidance of the kingdom’s leadership.
Shaikh Nasser noted that Bahrain’s recent success in hosting the third Asian Youth Games exemplifies national institutional work driven by integrated efforts and effective leadership.
Shaikh Nasser commended the dedication of Shaikh Khalid, whose direct supervision and active follow-up were key to the success of this major continental event.
Shaikh Nasser also praised the performances of Bahrain’s athletes in the third Asian Youth Games, which resulted in winning numerous medals, and commended the exceptional cooperation amongst all parties, reinforcing Bahrain’s position as a regional and international hub for major sporting events.
On their part, Shaikh Khalid and members of the committees thanked Shaikh Nasser for his guidance and support, which greatly contributed to the success of the Games.
They underlined their commitment to continue working diligently to enhance Bahrain’s international sporting achievements.
Bahrain’s delegation enjoyed their most successful medal haul in the history of the Asian Youth Games, winning an incredible 13 medals – including five gold, five silver, and three bronze.
This was achieved in eight sports, including mixed martial arts (MMA), weightlifting, 3x3 basketball, equestrian endurance, pencak silat, handball, jiu-jitsu, and Muay.
Their five gold medals helped catapult the delegation to their best-ever classification on the Games’ final medal standings, placing 13th – a giant leap from the first two editions of the event.
The hosts were also the second-highest ranked Arab nation on the medal table, which featured 36 of the participating 45 National Olympic Committees.
Bahrain fielded their largest-ever team for a continental age-group event – with 204 athletes including 150 boys and 54 girls – competing in all 26 sports.
Meanwhile, a ceremony was held under the patronage of Shaikh Khalid to honour the executive committee and volunteers of the 3rd Asian Youth Games.
The ceremony, held at Khalifa Sports City, was attended by GSA deputy chairman Shaikh Salman bin Mohammed Al Khalifa, BOC vice president Shaikh Isa bin Ali Al Khalifa, GSA CEO Dr Abdulrahman Askar, and BOC secretary general Faris Al Kooheji.
Shaikh Khalid commended the efforts of the executive committee and the nearly 3,000 volunteers whose contribution helped deliver an exceptional edition that showcased the kingdom’s capability and leadership in organising major sporting events.
