The Ambassadors of the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) member states and the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan to the Russian Federation, led by Ahmed Abdulrahman Al Saati, Ambassador of the Kingdom of Bahrain and current GCC Presidency Chair, met with Alexander Alimov, Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Russian Federation for International Organizations, and Georgy Borisenko, Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs for the Middle East and North Africa, to discuss the latest regional developments.
During the meeting, Ambassador Al Saati affirmed that GCC countries have, since February 28, been subjected to a series of Iranian attacks targeting residential areas, civilian facilities, and vital infrastructure across GCC states and the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan. He emphasised that these attacks constitute a flagrant violation of international law and a direct threat to international peace and security.
The Ambassadors called for the implementation of United Nations Security Council Resolution 2817 (2026), including an immediate cessation of hostilities, the protection of civilians and civilian infrastructure, and the safeguarding of international maritime navigation. They stressed the importance of taking practical steps and establishing clear mechanisms to ensure compliance with the resolution, including strengthening international efforts to monitor the ceasefire and enhancing multilateral cooperation to support regional stability. They also expressed their expectation that the Russian Federation, as a permanent member of the Security Council, will play an active role in halting the ongoing Iranian attacks.
For their part, the Russian Deputy Foreign Ministers welcomed the GCC and Jordanian ambassadors, affirming the deep bilateral relations between the Russian Federation, GCC countries, and Jordan. They reiterated Russia’s support for the sovereignty and territorial integrity of GCC states and condemned attacks targeting civilians and civilian infrastructure, underscoring the importance of avoiding further human and material losses.
The meeting also included an exchange of views on means to enhance diplomatic coordination and intensify international efforts aimed at containing escalation and preserving regional security and stability.
