HANDBALL – AL Ahli and Al Dair were both victorious last night as gameweek 18 got underway in the 2025-26 Khalid Bin Hamad Bahrain Handball League.
Ahli defeated bottom-ranked Bahrain Club 25-20 while Dair outclassed Al Tadhamun 38-29.
Both games were played at the Bahrain Handball Federation Arena in Um Al Hassam Sports Complex, with no fans in attendance.
In Ahli’s triumph, they built a commanding 17-5 lead in the first half and took their foot off the gas en route to securing their 14th win in 16 tries.
Ahli leapfrogged Al Shabab to second place on the table, where they improved to 44 points – just three behind leaders and defending champions Al Najma. Bahrain Club, on the other hand, suffered their league-worst 16th defeat, going to 19 points on the standings.
Dair, meanwhile, powered to an 18-13 lead at the break and did enough over the concluding 30 minutes to put away Tadhamun.
Dair claimed their eighth win in 16 tries and improved to 32 points to rise to fifth, reviving their chances of claiming a spot in the top four for a Golden Square semi-final berth. They overtook Tadhamun on the standings. Tadhamun lost for the eighth time and went to 31 points.
The league’s 18th round continues tonight and tomorrow. This evening, Al Ettihad face Tubli at 5.30pm followed by Barbar taking on Al Ettifaq at 7.15pm. Tomorrow, Shabab go up against Samaheej at 7pm.
