FOOTBALL – NATIONAL champions Muharraq announced yesterday the appointment of Bahraini tactician Issa Al Saadoun as the new head coach of their senior men’s football team.
Al Saadoun is taking the place of renowned Portuguese coach Fernando Manuel de Jesus Santos, popularly known as ‘Nandinho’, who vacated his post at the helm of Muharraq’s top squad in May.
Al Saadoun’s signing follows a thorough review and evaluation of several coaching candidates by Muharraq’s football department, the club said in a statement. Al Saadoun was deemed the most suitable choice to lead the team at this stage, given his extensive technical experience, deep understanding of the club’s culture and history, strong leadership qualities, and proven ability to achieve the team’s goals, the statement highlighted.
Al Saadoun is considered one of the most prominent figures in Muharraq’s history. He previously led the first team to victory in the AFC Cup in 2021 as well as in a number of regional and national competitions.
Al Saadoun will be hoping to continue the winning mark left by Santos, who helped guide Muharraq to a sensational title double this past 2025-26 season – winning the His Majesty the King’s Cup and successfully defending their crown in the Nasser Bin Hamad Bahrain Premier Football League.
