Bahrain’s Ambassador to Belgium and Head of Bahrain’s Mission to the European Union, chaired the GCC side at a working breakfast meeting with the European Union’s Political and Security Committee (PSC).
The meeting, hosted by the Permanent Representation of Cyprus within the framework of its Presidency of the European Union, aimed to continue consultation and co-ordination between the GCC and the EU on regional developments, particularly in light of the Iranian attacks targeting Bahrain and GCC countries.
Participants discussed the repercussions of the Iranian attacks on GCC countries and their implications for regional security and stability. They emphasised the importance of respecting the sovereignty and territorial integrity of states, rejecting the targeting of civilian infrastructure and vital corridors, and the need to halt escalation and intensify international efforts to safeguard regional security.
They also highlighted the importance of ensuring maritime security and freedom of navigation in the Strait of Hormuz, and working with international partners to maintain the uninterrupted flow of global shipping and trade in accordance with international law, given its implications for energy security, global economic stability and supply chains.
They underscored the importance of advancing the strategic partnership between the GCC and the European Union and continuing co-operation on shared priority areas, particularly maritime security, energy and economic co-operation, in support of mutual interests and regional and international stability.
