As part of Bahrain’s current presidency of the GCC, Foreign Minister Dr Abdullatif Al Zayani chaired a virtual meeting bringing together the foreign ministers of the GCC states and Jordan with Russian Minister of Foreign Affairs Sergey Lavrov.
The meeting was also attended by GCC Secretary General Jasem Mohamed Albudaiwi.
The talks focused on latest regional developments, including the repercussions of the Iranian attacks on GCC countries and Jordan, and the resulting significant loss of life and damage to civilian property and infrastructure.
The ministers also discussed the impact of restrictions on international navigation in the Strait of Hormuz on global energy security, food supplies, and global trade.
They underscored the importance of continued co-ordination and consultation at the United Nations Security Council, in light of Bahrain’s non-permanent membership for the 2026-2027 term and Russia’s status as a permanent member.
