Early childhood education institutions - nurseries and kindergartens - will be allowed to fully resume operations, giving parents the choice to utilise in-person services from Sunday (April 5).
In addition, government and private schools that cater to students with disabilities will be permitted to receive students based on parental preference.
Private schools will also be allowed to conduct assessments related to international qualifications through flexible arrangements agreed with awarding bodies, ensuring students can complete certification requirements without disruption to their academic progress.
All other students in government and private schools will continue learning through distance education until further notice.
The Education Ministry announced updated operational procedures for educational institutions, introducing greater flexibility in service delivery while distance learning continues for most students.
Education Minister Mohammed bin Mubarak Juma said the revised measures aim to balance safety with educational needs.
“This update achieves greater flexibility in benefiting from early childhood and special education services, while giving parents wider choices that suit their circumstances,” he said.
Dr Juma noted that the decision also safeguards the interests of students pursuing international certificates by offering alternative assessment pathways, sometimes known as the “no exam route”, to protect their academic future.
He praised schools for their commitment to digital learning and assessment systems during the exceptional period.
“The co-operation and professionalism shown by educational institutions in applying digital platforms has ensured the continuity of both learning and evaluation without interruption,” he added.
The Ministry said it will continue reviewing the situation and will announce further updates as needed.
